SHEIKHUPURA: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif Sunday said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is a constitutional institution whose mandate is to probe the financial irregularities.
Speaking to reporters after his visit to the DHQ Hospital here, the chief minister said that there should be accountability for those also who are not working as per their mandate. He said that though the pace of development projects in the provinces has been affected due to NAB, the provincial government will continue to serve the people as per its commitment. He said that the provincial government should be appreciated for its development works carried it in last five year.
The chief minister said that the Punjab government is bearing 100 percent expenses of the poor patients, adding that with state-of-the-art machines in the hospitals, a revolution is coming in the health sector of the province.
Shehbaz said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government has installed 3,600-megawatt gas power plants in the country. He alleged that the national exchequer was looted during the tenure of previous governments in the name of power projects.
Shehbaz returned to Pakistan from London on Sunday. A statement issued by his office said that the chief minister got his checkups done there and was in good health.
In London, Shehbaz told overseas Pakistanis that it was time to work for the country as people had already seen too many dramas and circuses. “People can very well distinguish between lies and truth. We do politics not for coming into power but for the public welfare and service. People can no more be deceived through false claims of change and revolution,” he said, and questioned how those who failed in KhyberPakhtunkhwa could bring about change in the whole country.
“The real competition is between truth and falsehood. Those who made record of telling lies have failed to win the hearts of the people,” he said, adding that massive progress and development could be witnessed in Punjab only. “Journey of development has continued in Punjab despite sit-ins, protests and rallies,” he said, hoping that the PML-N would win more seats in the 2018 general elections due to its performance.
