President of the Permanent Committee on Human Rights of the Italian Parliament, Iolanda Di Stasio, recently held a meeting with Pakistan’s Ambassador to Italy and Permanent Representative to FAO, WFP and IFAD Jauhar Saleem at the Embassy of Pakistan, Rome. During the detailed meeting, Ambassador Saleem updated the committee president on the situation prevailing in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJ&K), highlighting the terror being unleashed on innocent Kashmiris. He also underlined the importance of resolving the longstanding dispute as per relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, which guaranteed the inalienable right to self-determinationfor the Kashmiris. ‘Durable peace in South Asia, which houses a quarter of world population, would not be possible without resolving the Jammu & Kashmir dispute,’ the ambassador explained. Ambassador Saleem also noted that the European Union (EU) placed high emphasis on human rights protection, and as one of its leading members, Italy needed to take cognizance of the egregious human rights violations by India in IIOJ&K.
