Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi Friday said as global community fights an unprecedented pandemic, it is time for world leaders to show compassion towards each other and lift sanctions against Iran.
“Sanctions must be lifted against Iran, in this moment of peril so that it can use its resources to save precious human lives,” the foreign minister said in a tweet, as senior Iranian health official revealed 50 citizens are contracting COVID-19 every hour in the country. “We must, as leaders at time of such great challenge and difficulty, show utmost compassion,” he said.
In another message from his residence where he moved into self-isolation for five days following his return from China on March 18, Qureshi said the government is taking every possible step to control spread of COVID-19 and calls upon the citizens to act responsibly to overcome the challenge with coordinated efforts. “It is important for public to follow instructions issued by the government for their safety,” he said.
Qureshi said the government has set up the country’s largest quarantine at Multan Industrial Estate with 3,000 rooms to cater to the infected pilgrims returning from Iran.
