Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani on Tuesday adjourned Senate session for an indefinite period on the suggestion of Leader of Opposition in Senate Raja Zafarul Haq.
As the session started, Leader of Opposition in Senate Raja Zafarul Haq said that the opposition doesn’t want to take part in discussion over no-trust motion under Senate Rule 218. He said the opposition wants to table the no-confidence motion in the House.
Sanjrani said that no-confidence motion against the chairman cannot be moved in the requisition session of the Senate as it can only be done in a regular session summoned by the president. Later, he adjourned the session for an indefinite period.
On the other hand, Leader of the House Senator Shibli Faraz hosted a luncheon in honour of the ruling party senators. He claimed that the majority of the senators are with them, however not a single senator from Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) and Balochistan National Party (BNP) attended the luncheon.
Separately, the opposition’s Rehbar Committee on Tuesday held another meeting to formulate its next course of action over the matter of de-seating the chairman of the Senate.
Raja Zafarul Haq presided over the meeting of 54 members of the opposition. The meeting was attended by Sherry Rehman, Sassui Palijo, Karishna Kumari, Pervez Rashid, Mustafa Khokhar, Hasil Bizenjo, Ghafor Haideri, Abdul Quyyum, Nuzhat Sadiq, Robina Khalid, Atta-ur-Rehman, Tahir Bizenjo, Asif Kirmani, Rahila Magsi and others.
