LAHORE: The Supreme Court issued a notice to Khadim Rizvi after the Punjab government challenged the Lahore High Court (LHC) decision granting bail to Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan on Thursday.
The petition heard by a two-member bench comprising Justice Manzoor Ahmed Malik and Justice Qazi Mohammad Amin Ahmed.
In response to a question by the bench about Rizvi’s crime, Additional Prosecutor General Mazhar Sher Awan said that the accused had delivered “anti-judiciary speeches and provoked the masses”.
“These are the facts of the case, speak about the law and tells us Khadim Hussain Rizvi’s crime,” said Judge Malik.
“What is wrong with the high court’s decision to release Khadim Hussain Rizvi on bail?” he asked.
“You don’t know the merits of the case; who drafted it?” Judge Malik asked, adding: “How many individuals’ bail do you want to have cancelled?”
Awan said that they had only submitted a petition for the rejection of bail for Rizi and Ata Mohammad.
The SC issued notices to the TLP chief on the Punjab government’s appeal and adjourned proceedings.
The provincial government has argued that the high court “did not fulfill legal requirements” in its decision to grant bail.
There was enough evidence against the TLP chief and urged the top court to terminate the high court’s decision, said by petition.
