Hours after Federal Minister Faisal Vawda suggested in a tweet that the deadline for the tax amnesty scheme will be extended by four days, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Shabbar Zaidi on Saturday clarified that the government is not extending the June 30 deadline for declaration of assets.
In a statement, Zaidi said the FBR offices will remain open till 11pm on June 30. He asked people to make the most of the tax amnesty scheme. He said that those who declare assets will be facilitated in every way.
Vawda in a tweet earlier in the day said that the tax declaration scheme is being extended by four days. He said the clause of depositing the declared money in the bank accounts is no longer the part of the scheme. “The tax declaration scheme is being extended by four/4 days and the clause of depositing the declared money in the bank accounts is no longer the part of this scheme. You can declare but there’s no need to deposit,” he posted on his Twitter handle.
Later, the minister deleted his tweet after clarification from the FBR chairman.
Also on Saturday, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said the decision on extension in the deadline for assets declaration scheme will be taken during meeting of Prime Minister Imran Khan with stakeholders on Sunday (today).
Speaking to media outside the Parliament House, she said the prime minister in this regard will chair a meeting to be attended by all the stakeholders, including representatives of chambers of commerce and industry. The decision will be taken in the larger interest of the country, she added.
