The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday dismissed a petition filed against the consultancy contract awarded for the Mohmand Dam project. The court directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman to decide the case on merit. A division bench of LHC, headed by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, heard the case. The petitioner stated that the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) had earlier granted the consultancy contract of the project to Nespak worth Rs 5.5 billion. “However, the contract was cancelled and later awarded to a consortium led by Nespak. The decision can inflict a loss of Rs 3.5 billion to the national exchequer,” the petitioner said. The petitioner claimed that retired engineers from WAPDA were working in Nespak. The petitioner sought a court to order for the NAB for launching an inquiry into alleged irregularities in awarding the contract.
