Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday said that he was ready to face any action taken against him by the government upon his return to the country.
Talking to reporters before leaving for Pakistan from Heathrow Airport on Saturday, Shehbaz, who is the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, vowed to take legal action against people spreading rumours about his return to Pakistan.
The PML-N president said that the government had chosen the path of “cruelty and injustice”. “Baseless news is being spread about my return to the country. I will take legal action against those spreading such false news,” he said. Shehbaz Sharif said he was returning to Pakistan despite his doctors’ advice to receive more treatment.
Shehbaz said that consultations would be held with opposition parties during the upcoming session of the National Assembly on Monday. “All decisions about the future [political] strategy will be taken after consulting opposition parties. The government’s incompetent policies have had a devastating impact on the national economy. Our good intentions were mocked,” he added.
Referring to Nawaz Sharif’s condition in jail, the PML-N president said his brother had undergone several operations. “The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has adopted a cold attitude towards Nawaz Sharif, who has thrice been elected the prime minister of Pakistan,” he said.
Shehbaz is scheduled to reach Lahore early on Sunday (today). Hamza Shehbaz and other local PML-N leaders will receive him at the airport.
During the hearings of Ramzan Sugar Mills and Ashiana-i-Iqbal Housing Scheme cases, Shehbaz’s lawyers had earlier stated that he would return before June 11. On May 25, his defense counsel had told the court that his client was out of the country due to medical reasons. Shehbaz had been released on bail by the Lahore High Court.
