Senator Sherry RehmanPakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Parliamentary Leader in Senate, Sherry Rehman, on Saturday, called the former president, Pervez Musharraf, out over his support of building ties with Israel. Since its inception, Pakistan has refused to recognise Israel as a state. Senator Sherry sighed that all of Pakistan was shell-shocked over Musharraf’s pro-Israel statements in his press conference. She further questioned that when Israel could not tolerate Palestinian Muslims, how would it ever tolerate a Muslim nuclear power like Pakistan? The PPP leader went on to point out a trend in Musharraf’s inclination with Israel and claimed that this was not the first time he had given a pro-Israel statement. “In 2005, it seemed like Pervez Musharraf’s regime tried to break the ice with Israel without any consultation, in what would have been a stark departure from Pakistan’s justified stand to support the Palestinian people,” she added. The senator then called on the government to immediately respond to Musharaf’s conference and clarify its foreign policy.
