SIALKOT: Prime Minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Saturday said that the politicians deserve as much respect as government officials, the judges, and army generals.
Addressing a ceremony in Pasrur, the PM said: “A country cannot succeed until it respects its politicians. Politicians are in the front when it comes to running countries and solving problems,” he said.
Speaking about former foreign minister Khawaja Asif’s disqualification, PM Abbasi said Asif served the country for 30 years. “He just possessed Iqama (work permit) which is used for a visa and was disqualified on this basis. Is it fair?” he questioned.
“This decision which will neither be accepted by history nor people,” he added.
Referring to the upcoming general elections, PM said: “The decision made by the ballot boxes should be respected for the next five years.”
He added that it was the PML-N which served the country, extended motorways and network of roads across the country.
He also lambasted the eleven points of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) which were presented by party chairman Imran Khan during his rally at Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore last week.
Earlier, PM Abbasi had performed the groundbreaking of Sialkot to Pasrur Road. Later in the day, he will lay down the foundation stone of Narowal-Lahore-Sialkot Motorway link road project.
