LAHORE: Sikh Pilgrim Kiran Bala, who converted to Islam in Pakistan and requested visa extension, has been granted a 1-month relief on Saturday.
According to the reports, Kiran Bala (Amina Bibi) has been given a 1-month relief according to law. Moreover, there is a ‘solid chance’ that the 31-year-old convert would be granted a 6-month visa extension by the interior ministry.
Moreover, it was said that Kiran Bala would have to apply for a visa extension every 6 months for the first 7 years of her stay in the country.
It was further said that after 7 years, the applicant would be granted permanent residency and the Pakistani passport if all necessary conditions are met.
On Friday, Kiran Bala aka Amina Bibi filed an application before the Lahore High Court (LHC) to grant her permanent residency.
The LHC directed the interior ministry to look into the application of visa extension filed by the petitioner.
Kiran Bala, a Sikh pilgrim who came to Pakistan for Baisakhi Mela requested visa extension after she converted to Islam, while she also married a local from Lahore.
Speaking on occassion, Kiran aka Amina Bibi said that she has willfully converted to Islam and married a local from Lahore, Muhammad Azam.
She added that people of Pakistan have been “extremely supportive” and that she wants to stay in the country, and for that purpose, had requested visa extension.
