LAHORE: At least 08 were killed and 25 others were injured in a bomb blast at Data Darbar – country’s most visited shrine – today (Wednesday).
The blast was intended at targeting a police mobile and took place near Gate-02 of the shrine.
Punjab Inspector General of Police Arif Nawaz confirmed to the reporters: “There is no doubt it was an attack targeting police.”
It is also suspected that the blast was a suicide attack though the theory remains to be confirmed.
For now, the shrine has been sealed. The devotees present inside were made to exit from a back door.
Forensic officials and CTD (Counter-Terrorism Department) is collecting evidence. According to DIG Operations, 306 police officials in the city have lost their lives in the line of duty.
Buzdar orders inquiry
Following the blast, Punjab CM cancelled all appointments and ordered a probe into the matter from Punjab IG and chief secretary (home), said Chief Spokesperson to the Punjab CM, Dr Shahbaz Gill, in a tweet.
