The Supreme Court has declared the existence of the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat illegal and fined it Rs 1 Lac.
The apex court issued the order in a case filed against SNGPL.
According to the verdict, the apex court imposed a fine on filing an unnecessary and misleading petition and directed to pay the fine to a welfare institution.
The court said the federal ombudsman secretariat had no legal existence. The decision said that action should be taken against the federal ombudsman responsible and a report should be submitted within two months.
The apex court in its judgment said that the precious time of the apex court was wasted by filing an unnecessary petition. Hearing a complaint against SNGPL was not within the jurisdiction of the Federal Ombudsman. The job of the federal ombudsman is to hear complaints against mismanagement.
The decision states that the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat did not have the right to file an application in the absence of the affected party.
