United Nation (UN) messenger of Peace Malala Yousafzai has expressed deep concerns over the reports that thousands of students in Indian-Held Kashmir (IHK) are unable to attend their schools for more than 40 days.
In a statement on Twitter on Saturday, the winner of a Nobel award Yousafzai condemned the recent Indian actions in IHK. As a result of which children are unable to go to their schools and girls are afraid to leave their homes, she said. They have missed their exams and their future is unsecure now, the statement added.
For the last one week she is in regular contact with the students, human rights activities and journalists from IHK and it took a lot of work from a lot of people to get their stories because of the communications blackout, she said. Kashmiris are cut off from the world and unable to make their voices heard, Malala added.
According to her, a girl told her that, “The best way to describe the situation in Kashmir right now is absolute silence. We have no way of finding out what is happening to us. All we could hear is the steps of troops outside our windows. It was really scary”.
Malala Yousafzai urged the UN General Assembly and international community to play their role toward peace in IHK, listen to the voices of the Kashmiris and help the children go back to their schools safely.
