A newly constituted medical board which examined former prime minister Nawaz Sharif at the Kot Lakhpat prison a couple of days back on Friday recommended to shift him to a hospital for appropriate treatment.
The medical board comprised six doctors and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo’s personal physician was also present during the examination.
The team of doctors which examined Sharif in jail comprised Dr Talha Bin Nazir, assistant professor of cardiology, Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology; Dr Hamid Sharif Khan, assistant professor of cardiology, Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology; Dr Sajjad Ahmed, associate professor of cardiology, Punjab Institute of Cardiology; Dr Shahid Hamid, professor of cardiology, Punjab Institute of Cardiology; Brigadier Azmat Hayat, electrophysiologist, Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology and National Institute of Heart Diseases Rawalpindi; and Brig Abdul Hameed Siddique, classified cardiologist, Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology and National Institute of Heart Diseases Rawalpindi.
The medical board has sent its recommendations to the Punjab Home Department which will take a decision accordingly.
Sharif had complained of chest pain a few days ago, following which his medical tests were carried out. The tests had indicated that Sharif suffered from cardiac issues. It is pertinent to note that he had also undergone an open-heart surgery in London in 2015.
