The members of Green Stars and Kung Fu Association, Larkana, took out a large rally and held a protest demonstration at Jinnah Bagh here on Sunday while holding saplings in their hands demanding stopping of cutting trees across the country specially from forests for any purpose to save the land from environmental pollution.
Zulfiqar Magsi, Amanullah Bhutto, Aijaz Mugheri, Maqbool Soomro and others said that trees and jungles are most essential for livestock, birds and wildlife as they provide shelter to them and due to their cutting by habitual wood traders entire atmosphere has been highly polluted and temperature has increased. They said cutting trees on a massive scale will only bring destruction which should be stopped immediately and it should be made a criminal offence.
They said chopping trees is continuing in various parts of Sindh including Ketty Bunder and other coastal areas, riverine areas of Larkana and Khairpur and some parts of Tharparkar which must be curbed forthwith and offenders be taken to task. They said the Sindh Forest Department is constantly sleeping as it has not yet been able to retrieve its occupied government land despite apex court order then how can it save its forests. They said that the lives of cattle will also become very hard if jungles are not saved and trees are not planted on a massive scale everywhere. They demanded the rulers to take foolproof actions for saving forests and trees across the country especially in Sindh.
