For the first time since 1947, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi amended the Occupied Kashmir Housing Act, which is apparently being described as a challenge to the valley.
According to an AFP report, critics say Modi’s Hindu extremist government is trying to change the identity of the Muslim-majority region of occupied Kashmir by following the Israeli government’s settlement measures in the Palestinian territories.
More than 65% of the region’s population is Muslim, with up to 100% hatred against the Indian government.
Narendra Modi’s government also repealed the Special Housing Laws in Occupied Kashmir, which had been in force since 1927, requiring only permanent residents to buy land and property, while seeking government jobs, placement in universities and voting in local elections.

Jammu & Kashmir state was demoted to a union territory governed directly from New Delhi, while the Ladakh region was carved out into a separate administrative area.
