In occupied valley of Kashmir, Indian troops, in their fresh acts of state terrorism, martyred six more Kashmiri youth in Shopian and Pulwama districts, on Friday, taking the number of martyred youth in the territory to eight during the last 24 hours. During so-called cordon-and-search operations, the Indian troops martyred four youth in Bandpawa Chitragam in Shopian and two others inside a mosque in Pampore area of Pulwama. The troops had martyred one youth each in these areas on Thursday. Indian police and troops also used brute force and fired teargas shells in Pampore on the demonstrators protesting against the killings.
Meanwhile, the troops continued violent military operations in different areas of Pulwama, Shopian, Islamabad, Kulgam, Kupwara, Baramulla and Bandipore districts. The limited internet in the twin districts of Pulwama and Shopain was also suspended.
After the martyrdom of eight separatists, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Vijay Kumar said that 100 freedom fighters in the disputed region have been martyred so far this year. Police sources told Anadolu Agency that nearly 32 freedom fighters have been martyred in southern Kashmir during the last 19 days, which include 22 in Shopian alone in less than a two-week period.
Regional police sources told Anadolu Agency that 72 freedom fighters were martyred alone since the pandemic emerged in the region on March 20, while 102 have been martyred since the beginning of this year.
