In a recent development, the price of flour has been increased all over Punjab by Rs50 per bag in the retail market.
As per the new price, the price of 20kg of flour in Lahore has reached Rs975 after an increase of Rs 50.
According to Lahore Atta Dealers Association, the price of wheat has been on the rise and reached Rs1800 per 40kg. Such a high price of grain necessitated an upward revision of flour price.
Since last month, there has been a surge of Rs170 per bag or 21 percent in the price of flour, which is a staple food in this part of the world. The flour price was magnified by all the millers and it will be applicable earlier from Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the price of fine ‘atta’ has also been increased to Rs4700 per 84kg bag, showing an increase of Rs300. The price of ‘suji’ or semolina was also hiked to Rs2850 per 50kg bag from Rs2650.
However, rejecting the statement of flour mills regarding flour prices, Abdul Aleem Khan, provincial Food minister, said the price of flour was calculated on the basis of wheat rate.
He made it clear that the prices of flour will be the same as those fixed in consultation with the Food Department and the administration.
Punjab has an abundance of wheat and uninterrupted supply of flour and wheat to the market is the top priority of the government, he observed.
