The Department of City and Regional Planning in University of Management and Technology (UMT) celebrated 70th World Town Planning Day to bring together planners and communities to draw attention to the aims, objectives, and progress of urban and regional planning around the globe.
Chief guest Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, minister housing, vice chairman LDA SM Imran, Ziagham Rizvi, chairman of Federal Housing Taskforce, UMT President Ibrahim Hassan Murad, UMT Rector Dr Muhammad Aslam, Dr. Fariha Tariq, Dean & Professor Dr. Yousaf Awan, Industrial experts, faculty and students participated in this ceremony.
Dr Fariha Tariq gave her welcome note to the guests as well as to aware the audience about the projects she is handing which include Naya Pakistan Housing project designated by Government of Pakistan and “future cities initiative”.
After the cake cutting ceremony Chief Guest Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed “Minister housing” said that on behalf of Govt of Punjab I am thankful of UMT and its management for doing so efficient work in this project than all other universities and institutions. There was no proper town planning in the past, therefore people are facing problems traffic and law & order; said Minister. He suggested the audience and experts to find out better solutions to overcome the issues faced by society as it is the need of hour. He also told that Future Cities Initiative will shape cities of Tomorrow and government will provide homes to all needy.
President UMT Ibrahim Hassan Murad shared his views and told that world town planning is a good initiative taken by Government and need of hour as well. He told that the better town planning will lead us to be at par with the infrastructure of developed countries and it will not only generate revenue for the country but will also strengthen the industries of Pakistan. Ibrahim Hassan also assured full cooperation of UMT in this project to government official. It is a special day to give special recognition to the ideas of community planning which bring professional planners and the general public together; he added.
