Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan Thursday said narrative of Imran Khan has been vindicated as majority of senators rejected the move of opposition to remove Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani.
Talking to media outside Parliament House, she said Senate is the fountainhead of people’s power and majority of senators believe in a transparent system. She said this is start of new journey as people have won and the corrupt leadership, which did not want the Senate to keep working as per law and constitution, has been defeated. She said opposition should refrain from showing animosity towards the prime minister, adding that the move of the opposition in the Senate backfired as their own members revolted against the decision of no-confidence motion.
Dr Firdous said the government is ready to redress the issues of the opposition, especially in the wake of defeat in the Senate. She said masses are the ultimate power of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Separately, addressing the participants of an exhibition of rare photographs related to Pakistan Movement and history, Dr Firdous said Prime Minister Imran Khan is striving to transform the country into an Islamic welfare state as envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam. She said during the past one year, the PTI government took multiple steps for bringing stability and now it will focus on development and progress of the country, following the model of State of Madinah. “Unfortunately we have got physical independence but we are yet to get economic independence,” she said, adding that Imran Khan, with the support of masses, has successfully broken the nexus of two political families who were ruling the country turn by turn.
She said that Pakistan was created to protect the rights of the Muslims of the sub-continent but unfortunately during past few decades, an elite class usurped the rights of the people and played havoc with national economy to build their personal palaces abroad. She said that Imran Khan after coming to power took bold decisions to overcome the challenges being faced by the nation without bothering for political impacts since he deemed national interest above all other considerations. She said that reformation agenda of the PTI regime is, in fact, an effort for implementation of the vision of the Quaid to make Pakistan an economically strong state.
To a question about opposition’s no-confidence motion against Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, she said it was based on personal interests and a conspiracy to destabilise democracy and federation, since Senate, as upper house of the parliament, is a symbol of the federation.
