A meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has been summoned for June 4 (Tuesday) evening for the sighting of the Shawwal moon.
Committee Chairman Mufti Muneebur Rehman will chair the session after Maghrib prayers in Karachi.
On the same day, Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees will meet in Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar, while district bodies will meet at their respective headquarters.
The committee will announce whether the moon of Shawwal 1st has been sighted or not on Ramazan 29. Shawwal is the 10th month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) earlier predicted that Shawwal moon would be sighted on June 4 and Eidul Fitr will be on Wednesday June 5.
“There is a strong probability of sighting of the Shawwal moon on Ramazan 29 (June 04),” the PMD said in a statement. The Shawwal moon will be born on June 3 (Ramazan 28) at 3:02 PM and will be four hours and 16 minutes old at the time of sunset on Ramazan 28.
The moon will be 28 hours and 16 minutes old on June 4. That is the 29th of Ramazan and can be sighted for at least one hour after sunset, the department said.
