Naval Chief Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, on Wednesday, said that Pakistan highly valued the traditional Pakistan-China friendship. He stated this while holding meetings with several Chinese personalities, including China’s Minister of National Defence, Wei Fenghe. The two exchanged views related to professional matters of mutual interest. With the meeting underway, Naval Chief thanked Minister Fenghe for China’s participation in the multi-nation naval exercise, Aman-2019, recently held in Pakistan. China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was described as a game changer for the region. According to the spokesperson for Pakistan Navy, Admiral Abbasi’s visit would further strengthen relations between the two navies. The naval chief was in Beijing to attend the Chinese Navy’s 70th-anniversary celebrations, where he also inspected its international fleet review. Earlier this month, Chinese ambassador to Pakistan, Yao Jing, had called on Admiral Abbasi in Islamabad.
The naval spokesperson added that both dignitaries had discussed defence and maritime cooperation between Pakistan and China as well as matters pertaining to the maritime security of CPEC.
The chief had briefed the Chinese envoy about the role played by Pakistan Navy to enduring peace and stability in the region.
The Chinese envoy appreciated the Navy’s contributions to regional security.
