To commemorate International Women’s Day, Pakistan’s Upper House, on Friday, invited Krishna Kumari Kohli, the first-ever Thari Hindu female Senator to chair its session. Senator Faisal Javed tweeted, “Chairman Senate of Pakistan decided to make our colleague Krishna Kumari Kohli aka Kishoo Bai to Chair the Senate for today on Women’s Day.” The 39-year-old Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader from Nagarparkar, a village in Tharparkar is the first-ever senator from a scheduled caste. It is commendable that she rose to such prestige from a village in Tharparkar, an area where women are still deprived of basic facilities. International Women’s Day is observed across the world on March 8 every year. In Pakistan, the Aurat March 2019 took place in all major cities of Pakistan on Friday to commemorate the International Women’s Day.
