ISLAMABAD: Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al Jubeir will be visiting Pakistan on Friday with an ‘important message from Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman’, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi told reporters after the federal cabinet meeting on Thursday.
“Last night I also spoke to the Saudi foreign minister, and he expressed his desire to visit Pakistan, which I fully supported,” he said. Al Jubeir will discuss the rising Indo-Pak tensions with his Pakistani counterpart during the visit and is also likely to meet the prime minister and the army chief.
The foreign minister also welcomed US President Donald Trump’s statement regarding the Indo-Pak tensions. “We support US President Donald Trump’s statement,” he said. “I am glad that the US president has noticed the gravity of the situation and decided to intervene,” he said. “Pakistan has long-lasting relations with the US and Washington’s intervention will prove beneficial for the promotion of peace in the region,” he said, adding, “From the day one, we have maintained that we support peace.”
“We have already informed the international community that India is trying to destabilise the region for political gains. Even the BJP leaders are admitting that by conducting more airstrikes they would get 22 more seats in Lok Sabha,” the foreign minister said.
Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan urged both Prime Minister Imran Khan and Indian Prime minister Narendra Modi to quell the ongoing unrest.
In telephone calls to both the leaders, Sheikh Zayed underscored the need to deal wisely with the escalation between the two nuclear-armed countries, while giving priority to dialogue, according to a statement issued on the UAE ruler’s Twitter account.
According to a separate statement issued by Pakistan, Sheikh Zayed lauded PM Khan on his statesman-like speech in the joint session of parliament on Thursday. He also appreciated Khan’s willingness to resolve all issues in a peaceful manner.
