ISLAMABAD: A Punjab Police official was killed on Saturday night in a road accident and the vehicle involved was owned by the former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, said law enforcement agencies (LEAs).
The police officer Zeeshan Abbasi was a resident of Murree’s Jhika Gali neighbourhood. According to the reports, Abbasi was going from Zero Point in the city to the Faizabad area when he was hit and injured by a vehicle.
The officer was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his wounds later.
Police sources apprised that the car belonged to the ex-PM Ashraf and his driver, Abid, was driving at the time of the accident. However, the former premier was not in the vehicle.
A first information report (FIR) was subsequently filed against the driver on the bereaved family’s request, police added.
The FIR has been filed in Aabpara police station, at the request of the deceased police officer’s brother, against Abid. However, on the other hand, authorities have seized the car and took the driver into custody.
