ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has rejected all the media reports in connection to increase in the income tax on salaried individuals.
Addressing a news conference the information minister said that federal government was planning to increase the income tax on salaried persons but ‘no such proposal was taken into consideration’.
“Proposed amendments in the income tax ordinance were not in the agenda of the cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Imran Khan,” he added.
Fawad cleared the ambiguity on tax amendments after several newspapers’ report that government decided to change the tax slabs for the salaried persons.
“Frequently, newspapers print headlines about things that never happen. They said tariff of gas and electricity was being increased, but it was not true. There were newspaper reports today of the government increasing income tax rates for the salaried class. Nothing like this has happened either,” he said.
The information minister also denied increase in gas and electricity tariffs and said that federal cabinet had rejected the amendments in the Income Tax ordinance, adding that a decision has been taken to bring the proposed amendments in the next parliamentary session.
Earlier, there were reports that the relief on taxable income has been reduced for the salaried persons.
