In a video message released minutes before the Dutch politician’s announcement, Prime Minister Imran Khan urged Muslim countries to use the platform of United Nations to convey to the West how Muslims felt about actions that hurt their religious sentiments by disrespecting the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW). He said that Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had already started reaching out to the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) members on the issue. Khan said that people in the West had their own way of looking at their religions, adding that Muslims looked at their religion in a very different way.
“They don’t understand the feelings and religious sentiments of Muslims because we have never tried to explain to them how we value our religion,” he said. While speaking in Senate earlier this week, PM Khan had deemed the absence of an international policy against blasphemous content as a collective failure of Muslim countries.
