LAHORE: Punjab Assembly’s budget session is likely to be summoned on May 14.
According to the treasury bench sources, the Nawaz League’s provincial government has prepared a tax-free budget for the next four months from July to October.
The sources said that the budget for the remaining months of the fiscal year 2018-19 (till June 30, 2019) will be presented by the next government to take office after elections.
The parliamentary sources also confirmed that during the next session of the provincial assembly of Punjab, supplementary budget of fiscal year 2017-18 would also be presented and passed as the government has made some changes in the allocated funds in the annual financial statements of public institutes as well as development projects.
On the other hand, Punjab Assembly’s Standing Committee for Cooperatives’ chairman Dr Murad Rass, who belongs to the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has tendered his resignation from the post in protest against the non-cooperative attitude of treasury members and the bureaucracy in the matter of property issues of Airport Employees Housing Society, Rawalpindi.
He announced his resignation during a press conference at the party office here on Thursday in which he urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of the 20-year old issue. He claimed that he had tried his best to hold the standing committee’s meeting in the last eight months, but the ruling party did not cooperate with him.
