ISLAMABAD: The spokesman for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Fawad Chaudhry, on Tuesday, termed former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter’s visit to London to see the ailing Kulsoom Nawaz as ‘concerning’, and claimed that the visit “should not be used as an excuse to speak accountability.”
Former PM Nawaz Sharif left for London today (Wednesday) to visit Kulsoom Nawaz who was admitted to the hospital when her condition deteriorated on Tuesday. Mr. Sharif is accompanied by his daughter Maryam Nawaz and his son in law Captain (retd.) Safdar.
The PTI leader further added,
“”The proceedings of the accountability court are now in their final stages. Nawaz [and his daughter] travelling abroad raises suspicions that he is attempting to escape the court’s ruling.”
The PTI spokesman further added that the father of Sharif’s son in law—referring to former finance minister Ishaq Dar—had been allowed to “run away on the pretence of sickness”, and claimed that the “principled accused” in the present case not be allowed to flee in a similar manner.
Mr. Sharif and his family are currently facing three corruption cases before an accountability court in light of the references the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed against them.
