KARACHI: Pasban-e-Pakistan President Altaf Shakoor said that meaningful steps against corruptive elements in Pakistan are not possible until reforms are made in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
He said that until the backdoor relief provided by the option of plea bargains is not brought to an end, the efforts against corruption will not bear fruit.
He said that the large-scale corruption prevalent in Pakistan is more dangerous for the nation than terrorism and extremism. He said the close link between corrupt politicians and terrorist elements had already been unearthed. He said the cases against many politicians who funded terrorist and separatist activities through corruption money are already pending in court. He said that it was unfortunate that NAB, instead of being a watchdog against corruption, had virtually become a facilitator for these tyrants.
He said all corrupt elements, irrespective of their political, social and tribal status should be taken to task. He said Pakistan could never be put on the path to progress and prosperity until a serious approach of zero tolerance is adopted towards corruption and bribery. He said the success of the ongoing Karachi operation is linked to continuous action against corruptive elements, who have looted and plundered taxpayers’ money with both hands.
