ISLAMABAD: The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik has said that India was trying to change the demography of Jammu and Kashmir by issuing domicile certificates to non-Kashmiri Hindu refugees. He said that he would spill his blood to prevent a change in the demography of Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Yasin Malik in an interview in Srinagar said that he would not hesitate to spill his blood to sabotage the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regime’s move. He said that in Jammu and Kashmir, the State Subject Law had been in place since Maharaja Hari Singh’s time. He added that it was because Jammu and Kashmir was rich in water resources and had a vast forestland and the law was enacted to ensure that no outsider could buy property in Kashmir.
The JKLF chairman said that unfortunately, the ruling PDP-BJP regime was hell-bent upon changing the demography of Jammu and Kashmir by allowing non-state residents like refugees to settle in the territory. He said that ever since the inception of the PDP-BJP administration in occupied Kashmir, issues were being created to create confusion and push Muslims to the wall. Malik said, “First the government triggered controversy by raking up issues like separate colonies for Kashmiri Pandits, then created exclusive colonies for retired Indian soldiers and now it was issuing domicile certificates to refugees.”
Reiterating his resolve to prevent a change in Kashmir’s demography, Malik said, “We will not allow any move aimed at changing the demography of Jammu and Kashmir. We will oppose all such moves tooth and nail.” He added that Kashmiri people would never be mute spectators to such moves and there would always be tough resistance to such designs. He said that such conspiracies were hatched to harm the disputed nature of Jammu and Kashmir and its Muslim majority character.
