Gilgit police has launched 5 FIR’s under Anti-Terrorism Act over the Yadgar Chowk Gilgit incident which claimed two lives and injured 22 people. DIG Crime Gilgit Farman Ali told media here on Thursday that the incident took place during a rally of religious leader (Agha Rahat Hussain Al Hussaini, Central Imam of Imamia Mosque). A rikshaw rider joined the rally and bitter words were exchanged which resulted in in gunfiring and stone throwing. In reaction to this incident two more firing incidents took place as a result total 22 people were injured and two people died. Government and law enforcement agencies took action and constituted JIT’s to probe the matter. Police arrested more than 60 people for investigation and security tightened by banning pillion riding under Section 144. DIG Farman Ali told that it was not a planned activity and 18 people have been nominated in FIRs and 9 of them are under arrest and all the other will be behind the bars soon. It is important to mention that for safe demonstration of Muharram processions government has deployed more than One thousand police, 250 Pak army, 300 GB scouts, 300 rangers and 200 FC personals as a per security plan.
