PESHAWAR: A militant surviving from the Hayatabad operation, in a confession before the court, said that he was planning an attack on Peshawar High Court Justice Muhammad Ayub and ministers Shahram Tarakai and Atif Khan together with his accomplices.
Yasir Shamsur Rehman, the sole survivor of the Hayatabad operation, said that he was involved in the botched attack on Justice Ayub. He admitted this in a statement recorded at Peshawar Anti-Terrorism Court.
The incident took place on Feb 28 when the PHC judge was shot and injured when he was in his car in Hayatabad Phase V area. His driver too was injured.
Target student convention
Yasir further admitted that he missed his targets of killing Atif Khan and Shahram Tarakai during convention of Insaf Student Federation on April 13. The reason was an unplanned incident that foiled his plans.
“We had prepared an explosive-laden motorbike for the suicide attack. The bomber, while riding to the targeted place got hit by a car. Confused and distracted the bomber could reach the venue on time so the mission was called off,” Yasir said.
It needs to be noted here that the operation in the posh locality of Hayatabad lasted for 17 hours straight. As a result, five terrorists were killed while one officer was martyred. The operation took place on April 16.
He also confessed of his knowledge that his accomplices Tariq, Murad, Irfan, Amjad and Feroz Shah worked with the banned outfit and their outfit is involved in various terrorist activities.
