Four policemen were martyred and three others, including a station house officer (SHO), injured in an exchange of fire with unidentified gunmen in Khyber Paktunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district on Tuesday.
According to police, the firing incident took place in Paroa Tehsil of DI Khan.
District Police Officer (DPO) Dr Iqbal said the suspected terrorists targeted a police van patrolling in the area. He said the police party retaliated but the alleged terrorists managed to flee from the scene.
A search operation has been launched in the area. Station House Officer (SHO) Tahir Nawaz and two passers-by who sustained injuries in the shootout have been shifted to Dera Ismael Khan’s Combined Military Hospital. The martyred policemen have been identified as Constable Sarfaraz, Mirbaz, Asif and driver Javed.
Last month, at least two police personnel were injured when explosives went off in Dera Ismail Khan’s Kolachi district.
