The head of the medical board formed to examine Nawaz Sharif Monday said the treatment of the former prime minister was possible in Pakistan.
“Consultation over Nawaz Sharif’s report is underway and we have not reached a conclusion yet. The final decision will be taken after thorough review of the reports,” Professor Dr Mehmood Ayaz told reporters here. “Treatment of Nawaz Sharif is possible in Pakistan … haven’t decided to send him abroad for treatment so far,” he added.
Earlier in the day, the medical test report of Nawaz Sharif revealed that he had not suffered a cardiac stroke. The former prime minister underwent several medical tests at the Services Hospital on Sunday as prescribed by the medical board formed to examine his health. Sources said the results of medical tests were negative which proved the fact that he had not suffered any cardiac attacks. “A heart-specific test was conducted twice and the results were negative both the times,” the sources said. “A reexamination of his blood samples in Jinnah Hospital revealed that he has been facing past heart issues and no fresh symptoms related to heart attack were found,” the sources added.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) supporters have set up a Quran Khawani camp outside the hospital to offer special prayers for early recovery of Nawaz Sharif.
Sharif was shifted to the hospital from Kot Lakhpat Jail on Feb 2 amid tight security on the recommendation of a special medical board constituted by the Punjab government. He has been given a VVIP room in the hospital. SP Model Town Ali Waseem is in-charge of the overall security of the hospital. A deputy superintendent of police (DSP), two inspectors and 80 officials are performing security duties round the clock.
