Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) candidate Syed Hashim Raza Sunday defeated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Ashraf Jabbar Qureshi in Karachi’s PS-94 by-poll with a huge margin, according to unofficial results.
According to the preliminary unofficial results obtained from all 149 polling stations, Raza led the contest by obtaining 21,537 votes whereas Qureshi could bag only 8,970 votes.
PS-94 Karachi-III comprises of Karachi’s Korangi area and also includes some areas of Landhi sub-division. The total number of registered voters in the constituency is 246,477, of which 136,808 are male and 109, 641 are female.
The seat fell vacant on November 27 last year after the death of MQM-P MPA Muhammad Wajahat. Wajahat had won the seat in the general election by defeating Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan’s (TLP) candidate Shoaibur Rehman. The polling was held amid tight security, with CCTV cameras installed at all the polling stations.
