Finance Minister Asad Umar on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and decided against any immediate hike in gas tariffs.
It was revealed by Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry while addressing the media in Islamabad today.
Fawad said that the ECC had prepared guidelines regarding increase in the gas tariffs, however, he said, Prime Minister Imran Khan will take the final decision.
Moreover, The ECC has decided to provide fertiliser factories with 50 percent local gas and 50 percent LNG. “The government and fertiliser companies will share the LNG bills equally,” said the information minister.
It was also decided in the meeting that the government will import fertilisers to meet the urea deficit, he told.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif has criticised the government for ‘increasing gas and electricity prices’.
“The PTI government increased gas, electricity and fertilisers’ prices just 20 days after assuming charge,” said Shehbaz while addressing a press conference along with other party leaders.
The government has increased the gas tariffs by 46 percent, said the PML-N leader adding that he has never seen ‘such a massive increase in prices before’.
