Overwhelmed with emotions upon witnessing their sons and daughters in the getup they had long yearned for, some parents could not help crying tears of joy at the Nawaz Sharif Medical College (NSMC) here at Hafiz Hayat Campus of the University of Gujrat the other day.
The young medical aspirants, who had been holding their white coats with excitement and looked visibly nervous, got up from their seats in unison when asked to change gear and go in white for the Hippocratic Oath at the NSMC-UoG white coat ceremony to welcome the freshers on Monday. Dr Shaista took the oath from the newcomers. They felt themselves a step closer towards becoming a doctor.
“The white coat brings along a lot of responsibilities upon you in this profession, the noblest of all. I congratulate you all upon making it to the Nawaz Sharif Medical College,” Principal Dr Zafar Iqbal Gill said in his address on the occasion.
He said that a new state-of-the-art building for the NSMC was in the final phase of completion and all the medical departments and classes would be shifted to the new building very soon.
Vice Principal Dr Abid Nazir advised the newcomers to dig deeper into their studies for building a bright future.
“We will provide you with all the necessary support throughout your academic journey to make it a memorable experience for you,” he assured the newcomers, adding the profession demanded that they should be willing at all times to help the sick and the destitute.
Vice Principal Dr Nasir Ali Sheikh said that Nawaz Sharif Medical College had made a great name in a short span of time. He said there are 21 different medical departments, research laboratories, a healthcare centre, IT lab and other state-of-the-art medical facilities at the college. He said that FCPS classes in eight disciplines had already started and the ratio of the successful candidates was taking a constant upturn. Dr Shahida Hussain Tarar said that as doctors “we need to come up to the expectations in serving the humanity”. Third-year students presented a documentary about the activities and achievements of the medical college.
