The Met Office informed on Thursday that due to continuous suspension of sea breeze, the heat wave will prevail on Thursday to Saturday with temperature likely to range in between 40 degree Celsius and 42 degree Celsius in the city.
Continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country. A shallow westerly wave is affecting upper parts of the country and is likely to move northeastward during next 12 hours. Severe tropical Cyclone Vayu in the Northeast Arabian Sea has intensified as Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS).
Mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country today. However, dust/thunderstorm/rain with gusty winds is expected at scattered places in southeast Sindh (Mirpur Khas, Hyderabad and Karachi divisions), Kalat and Makran division, while at isolated places in Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Bahawalpur, DG Khan and DI Khan.
Meanwhile, Sindh Police Inspector General (IG) on Thursday directed regional police authorities to establish heatstroke units at district level across the province.
He said these centres must be equipped with necessary gadgets, medicines, cold drinking water and juices. “There is a dire need to publicise the precautionary measures tremendously to enable the people to adopt necessary measures in case of an emergency,” he said.
He said a campaign should be launched to create awareness among the people about heatstroke. Responding to the latest weather forecast with chances of a steady surge in daytime temperatures, which went past 40 degree Celsius with almost no breeze during the past three days, the IG sought immediate measures for timely intervention to prevent any possible heatstroke cases.
