CHINIOT: Police foiled a child marriage in Chiniot by preventing the marriage of a 13-year-old girl to a 50-year-old man.
According to reports, people in the neighbourhood where the ceremony was being held complained to the police. The police arrested the groom, Ahmed, and the girl’s father.
Ahmed was reportedly marrying for the second time as he could not have a child from his first marriage.
Police informed media that legal action would be taken against the accused. In Pakistan, the minimum age for marriage of a girl according to law is 16 years.
