KARACHI: Omni Group of Companies on Sunday denied the news about law enforcement agency’s raid at the house of Anwar Majeed in Karachi.
“Omni Group of Companies hereby strongly refutes the validity of the news items being aired on various news channels regarding the arrest of some its staff and a raid on the house of Anwar Majeed,” the group said in a press release. “No house owned by Anwar Majeed or his family, located in the area of DHA was raided by any law enforcement agency today or before.”
It further stated that no one relating to Omni Group attempted to fly out of Pakistan, nor was anyone arrested or questioned at the airport. Moreover, neither the group nor Anwar Majeed and his family deal with any illegal arms and ammunition for any purpose whatsoever, the release added.
“Omni Group and Majeed carry out business activities strictly within the parameters mandated by the laws of Pakistan.
“As the recent rumors will seriously affect the lawful business of the Omni Group, it is therefore expected from both the electronic and print media that they shall very cautiously attend to and transmit any news item that they deem necessary for reaching public. Similarly, while doing so the electronic and print media is also expected to provide a full and accurate account and refrain from using old footages with any new rumors,” the release said.
The group has also denied some reports being aired by the news channels and termed it baseless
Earlier, some unconfirmed reports were being aired by the electronic media that law enforcement agencies have conducted a raid at the house of former president Asif Ali Zardari’s close aide, Anwar Majeed in Phase VIII, Defence Housing Authority in the early hours of Sunday and recovered huge cache of arms hidden inside the house while two security guards were also taken into custody.
It was also reported that the group’s chief, Khowaja Salman Younus, was intercepted at Karachi airport on Sunday. Majeed is a close aide of former president Asif Ali Zardari. He is also said to be a business partner of Zardari and reportedly living in Dubai.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, while speaking to the media during his visit to Mazar-e-Quaid on Sunday, said that he has ties with Anwar Majeed. Zardari’s revelation about having ties with Majeed came a day after the Rangers’ personnel had lodged an FIR against Majeed and Omni Group of Companies’ Chief Younus at Saddar police station under terrorism and explosive acts following the alleged recovery of arms and ammunitions during raids at their houses.
So far, no arrest has been made as the investigations remained on pending. When contacted, SP Investigations Adeel Chandio said that the operation wing of the police would itself investigate the case.
