The Global Sikh Council has expressed serious concerns on alleged vandalizing of Guru Granth Sahib in two gurdwaras in Sindh province of Pakistan. “The Global Sikh Council (GSC) is saddened to learn the vandalising of the Guru Granth Sahib in two gurdwaras in Sindh Pakistan,” stated an open letter written by the council to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. “We earnestly request urgent action to apprehend and punish the person responsible,” the letter written by Lady Singh, President of Global Sikh Council, stated. “It is important that hooligan behaviour does not mar the good relations between our two communities,” it added. “The incident involved one Anil Kumar cutting out pages of Guru Granth Sahib in Gurdwaras Bhai Lalo Sahib and Bhai Narayan Singh. This has aroused considerable anger and upset in the global Sikh community, as Guru Granth Sahib is Sikhs’ eternal Guru and is revered as such. We request you to ask the relevant authority to take urgent action against the culprit,” the letter further stated. “GSC would like to urge the need for firm and prompt action be taken to deter any similar sacrilege in the future,” it concluded. The Global Sikh Council is a confederation of National Level Sikh Organisations worldwide, working together for the advancement of the Sikh religion guided by the Guru Granth Sahib and the socio-economic development of the Sikh community.
