Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has confirmed the sentence of a serving major, who was found guilty of misusing his official position, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The major was tried by the Field General Court Martial and the court adjudged the accused officer guilty of misusing his authority, the ISPR statement said. “Pakistan Army, alive to its institutional accountability system, has dismissed the officer from service and sent him to jail for life,” the statement concluded.
In May this year, army officer named Brigadier (r) Raja Rizwan and a civilian officer, Dr Waseem Akram, were awarded capital punishment by a Field General Court Martial, while 14-year imprisonment was handed to Lt Gen (r) Javed Iqbal. The officers were tried under Pakistan Army Act (PAA) and Official Secret Act by separate Field General Court Martial (FGCM) for separate cases related to espionage.
