Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), on Thursday, warned that the heatwave would continue to torment Karachi till May 4.
The maximum temperature on Thursday was said to hit somewhere between 40oC to 42oC. In the next 24 hours, the weather in the port city would remain hot and dry.
The minimum temperature recorded in Karachi remained 28 oC with 50 per cent moisture in the air.
Earlier in the week, the met office had issued a four-day (from May 1 to May 4) heatwave alert for Karachi wherein sea breeze was said to remain suspended. It also claimed that the maximum temperatures recorded during this period would range between 40oC to 42oC. Hot winds from the north/northwest direction of 10-15kts were likely to dominate, especially during day hours.
The met office, however, promised relief to citizens soon as the hot wave would recede on May 5 from Karachi.
People in Karachi were advised to remain indoors; avoiding unnecessary exposure to the sun. According to authorities, people should use wet towels on their heads during any outdoor work. In the meantime, composite measures have also been taken by the provincial government and Karachi administration to meet any unwanted situation. Keeping in view the prevailing hot weather in the city, an emergency had been also declared in all hospitals across Karachi. Over 121 heatstroke centres and first response centres were also established by the Sindh government to provide relief to the citizens.
