National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) Chairman, Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has decided to launch an investigation into the alleged suicide of Brigadier (retd) Asad Munir, out of fears of harassment by the watchdog.
A notification issued on Monday noted that the Chairman would personally oversee the inquiry. He is said to have summoned all records related to the deceased to Rawalpindi to fulfil the legal formalities. Earlier, Munir’s body was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his apartment located in Islamabad’s diplomatic enclave. Munir was a retired brigadier, against whom the National Accountability Bureau was conducting multiple inquiries. He was said to be quite upset over the approval accorded by the executive board of NAB to a corruption reference against him for misusing his authority and illegally getting a plot in Islamabad’s Sector F-11.
The family of the deceased requested the authorities to not perform an autopsy of the body, which was accepted by the Islamabad deputy commissioner. His dead body was returned after the conclusion of legal formalities.
