BAHAWALPUR: At least two people died in rain-related incidents in Bahawalpur on Wednesday.
According to details, Mukhtaran Bibi, 70, lost her life when roof of her house caved in after the downpour.
Separately, Muhammad Tahir, a worker of the Bahawalpur Waste Management Company (BWMC) died of electrocution due to a short circuit.
Rain and gusty winds uprooted several billboards in the city causing traffic snarl-ups on major roads. Power supply to 50 percent of the areas remained suspended after the rain and windstorm.
Meanwhile, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Riffat Mukhtar Raja has punished five police officials over alleged charges of misuse of authority, corruption and failure to control crime.
The RPO said that there was no room for corrupt and inefficient policemen in the department and added that anyone who would violate rules would be dealt with strictly. “Misuse of authority will not be tolerated at any cost,” he added.
