An eight-year-old primary student was bitten by four stray dogs in village Kubro on Wednesday when he was returning home after attending his school.
He was seriously injured by the dogs. The victim was identified as Muzzamil, son of primary teacher Iqbal Junejo, student of class III. The little boy was rescued by his cousins when he raised hue and cry. The boy was rushed to Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, where he received as many as 17 stitches in legs and arms. His father told newsmen that over ten children have been bitten by these stray dogs in the village in last few days for which the villagers had complained to the Chairman, Union Council, Saidu Dero, Sadaruddin Morio, but he took no efforts to eliminate these
dogs. He said due to panic little children will not now be able to go out and they will also remain absent from their schools due to fear. Morio was contacted but he did not attend phone call.
It must be mentioned here that recently Secretary, Local Government Department, Government of Sindh, Roshan Ali Shaikh had said while talking to media on November 15, 2019, that there will be no stray dogs in Sindh after five to eight years for which a grand operation will be launched starting next week to vaccinate stray dogs for which 900 million rupees have been allocated but campaign in the rural province is yet to be launched. According to experts, during breeding season, stray dogs always bite men, women and children without discrimination for which campaigns were regularly & annually launched in the past to kill them but due to resistance by animal lovers and activists this drive has been abandoned without provision of rabies vaccines. The villagers have urged that relevant authorities that till these dogs are vaccinated they should wipe out dogs at all costs because only poor are bitten not those who are living lavishly.
