Maxima, Queen of Netherlands, is on a three-day visit as a representative of United Nations Secretary-General (UNSG) Antonio Guterres, who appreciated the “Ehsaas Program” to uplift marginalized sections and said her visit to Pakistan would provide an added impetus to the ongoing efforts of the government.
While addressing a ceremony in Islamabad on Tuesday (26 November), she said that this program would empower all marginalized sections of society especially women. she said “Only 7 percent of women have bank accounts in Pakistan and this needs to improve. I appreciate the efforts of the Pakistan government in promoting women empowerment.”
Prime Minister Imran Khan also thanked Queen Maxima for taking a keen interest in the “Ehsaas Program”. He said “I am thankful to Queen Maxima for visiting Pakistan and especially taking a keen interest in our welfare programs. My motivation for coming to politics was to build a welfare state and our government is taking serious steps to eliminate poverty from the society.”
PM added that the most vulnerable section of our society is women and it is his first priority to uplift them.
PM said that the gap between rich and poor keeps on increasing and he finds it inhumane. “I feel that this greed for money is a curse for this society and all our problems are associated with it,” he said.
UNSGSA praised Pakistan’s efforts to promote financial inclusion in the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan and reiterated its support for Pakistan’s quest for poverty reduction and inclusive economic development.
