A soldier of Pakistan Army embraced martyrdom when terrorists raided Makki Garh Post in Shawal Valley of North Waziristan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of Pakistan Army, said in a press release on Monday.
The ISPR said that troops effectively repulsed the attack, adding that the soldier was martyred during an exchange of fire.
On other hand, during patrolling in Boya area, where an army post was attacked by a PTM mob on Sunday, five dead bodies with bullet wounds were found from a nullah, approximately 1.5 kilometres away from the Khar Kamar post. Identification of bodies is in process, the ISPR added.
A day ago, three people were killed and five soldiers injured in a clash between security forces and Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) protesters in North Waziristan.
According to ISPR, a group led by Mohsin Javed and Ali Wazir assaulted security forces’ Kharqamar check post in Boya area. “They wanted to exert pressure for the release of suspected terrorists’ facilitator arrested the other day. Troops at the check post exercised maximum restraint in the face of provocation and direct firing on the post,” said Pakistan Army’s media wing.
Also on Sunday, security officials had arrested three suspected militants in two raids in eastern Punjab province, foiling possible attacks, the province’s counter-terrorism department said.
In the first raid, in the district of Dera Ghazi Khan, a man was arrested for suspected links to the Daesh group, the agency said. Grenades and ‘funds for terrorism financing’ were seized during the operation. In the second raid, two members of the outlawed Lashkar-e-Jhangvi were arrested for planning to target Shias.
Last week, Punjab police as part of an ongoing crackdown on terror groups arrested six people for collecting funds for outlawed militant groups in the province.
